Miracle Karts Progress Update #1

Hello my little speed demons, welcome to the Miracle Karts itch.io page! I thought I’d introduce the game in a little more detail and layout my plans.

GAMEPLAY

Miracle Karts is a character based simlite kart racing game (phew!) inspired by bargain bin racing games, vintage go-karting, and campy horror cinema. How well these genres blend together remains to be seen but in my mind it’s a match made in the deliciously fiery pits of automotive hell.

The story and characters are secondary to the gameplay but will be predominantly featured in the game’s singleplayer mode. In singleplayer you’ll choose a character and work your way up the ranks in the Grand Prix, unlocking new parts and cosmetics.

The final release will feature 4 kart types, each with unique engine sounds and performance. You will also be able to swap out certain parts like tyres, and exhaust to tune your kart for each race. While there will be no licensed parts in the game I am putting a lot of effort into capturing the essentials for all creeps, ghouls, and sleazebags alike.

MULTIPLAYER

Local and online play is in the works but I need to be honest – this will be my first non-local coop game so please be patient!

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

My end-goal is to have up to 32 NPC or player karts on screen at any given time, with as much carnage and debris as possible. At the moment I have a consistent 60fps at 1080p on an i7 7700k with a GTX1070 on Windows 10. While the number of karts on screen may need to be reduced, the final game will be optimized for any Windows or Linux PCs that can run OpenGL 3.3.

TIMELINE

I am developing Miracle Karts as a solo dev so my schedule is prone to fluctuation. In my day to day I’m a janitor and jill of all trades. I want to make games full time but duty calls, so please be patient with updates. I have a YouTube channel where I post regular updates on my projects, but I will include short posts on this page for the time being.

DEMO

The demo release is coming along nicely and it will feature 1 kart and 1 track. The initial demo will not be a vertical slice, as not all features are completed or locked in, but I think it still gets across the feel I’m going for. Once the demo is available you will be able to pre-purchase the game for $6 with the price increasing as I add features. For the sake of transparency, I expect the final game to cost around $30 once everything is crammed in there. I am making the game by myself so your contributions help a ton!

Be well and see you on the track!
